TV21c Conf

September 26-28, 2013
North Quad
105 South State Street, Ann Arbor
University of Michigan

This conference brings together established and emerging scholars from around the globe to discuss the future of television and television studies. Our keynote speakers and two invited respondents per panel include those at the forefront of building television studies in the 1970s and rebuilding it in an increasingly globalized and convergent media environment. Each panel will be rounded out by an emerging scholar, and all are welcome to attend.

Over two-and-a-half days, we will address five problematics that have been central to the development of “television studies” as an identifiable academic endeavor and that continue to drive television scholarship:

Television’s Past, Present, and Future
Television and the Nation in an Era of Globalization
Television and Politics
Television, Text, and Identity
Digital Television

For more details on each session topic, read the provocations written by the keynote speakers linked just above. For more information on the time, location, and members of each panel, visit the conference schedule.

Overall, our goal is to facilitate conversations about television and television studies among and between multiple generations of media scholars. We hope you'll be part of that conversation.
